Call tracking
Also called phone call tracking, call attribution.
Crediting phone calls to their source by giving each ad, place or website visitor its own forwarding number.
Call tracking gives each source of calls its own phone number. Every number forwards to the business's real line, and the service records each call: when, how long, from which number, and through which tracking number. Since each number appears in one place, the number dialed tells you where the caller saw it.
There are two kinds. A static number always belongs to one place, such as a flyer, a truck or a Google Business Profile. Dynamic number insertion shows each website visitor a number from a pool, so a call can be tied to that visitor's source, campaign and ad.
Calls that pass a test, such as answered and longer than 60 seconds, can count as conversions and be sent back to ad platforms like any other lead. See call tracking for local businesses.
