First-touch attribution
Also called first-click attribution.
A model that gives all the credit for a conversion to the first known touch.
First touch answers "what introduced this buyer?". All the credit goes to the earliest touch the tool recorded: the first ad click, search, post or link.
It is the right lens for channels that create demand: prospecting ads, content, podcasts, partnerships. Its weakness is memory. A tool can only see as far back as its data reaches, and browser limits such as Safari's 7-day cap on script-set cookies shorten that. A buyer's "first touch" may really be their second or third.
Compare it with last touch before cutting a channel. See attribution models explained.
