How to track ClickFunnels: which ads bring opt-ins and sales
Where tracking code goes in ClickFunnels 2.0, how to avoid double counting site and funnel code, and how to tie opt-ins and sales to the ad that brought them.
On this page
ClickFunnels shows its own stats for each funnel, step by step. Paid traffic is usually what fills those funnels, so the question that decides budget is which ad, ad set and audience brought the opt-ins and the sales, and what each one cost.
Install Sporetag on ClickFunnels
- In Sporetag, add the domain your funnels run on and copy the tag from Set up your site.
- In ClickFunnels, open the Site & Blog app, then Site Settings.
- Paste the tag into the Header Code section.
- Save.
- Open a published funnel page and click Check my site in Sporetag.
ClickFunnels says site-level header code covers the whole site, including funnel pages, blogs and store pages (ClickFunnels). Menu names differ between ClickFunnels versions, so check them against your dashboard.
Site, funnel or page code: pick one
ClickFunnels has header code at three levels: the site, each funnel, and each page. Adding the same script at more than one level counts every page twice. Put Sporetag at the site level only.
If ClickFunnels already loads GA4 for you through its Measurement ID setting, and you also paste a GA4 tag yourself, you count every GA4 pageview twice too. ClickFunnels' Site Settings article says to turn its option off when GA4 is already installed (ClickFunnels).
Use your own domain
Sporetag counts visits only from the domain you added and its subdomains. Connect a custom domain to your funnels, such as join.yourbrand.com, and add that in Sporetag. It also keeps your funnels' analytics separate from anyone else's on a shared default domain.
From opt-in to sale
- Opt-ins: count the step after the opt-in page as a goal, or use Sporetag's form capture (90-day tracking) for forms with an email or phone field; press Test it to confirm it sees yours.
- Purchases: count the order confirmation step as a goal for a quick start. For accurate revenue, read payments from the source: if checkout runs through a Stripe account you own, the Stripe connector reads payments, refunds and subscriptions on paid plans.
- Ad platforms: mark the opt-in or purchase goal "send to Meta" to send it through the Conversions API. If you also run Meta's pixel on the funnel, use the same event id for both, or each conversion counts twice.
Tag every traffic source
Funnels live and die by traffic sources, so tag every ad with UTM parameters and dynamic values, such as Meta's {{campaign.name}} and {{adset.name}}. Then compare cost per opt-in and cost per sale by ad set, not by clicks.
Common questions
Where do I add tracking code in ClickFunnels 2.0?
In the Site & Blog app's Site Settings, in the Header Code section. Funnels and pages also have their own header code fields.
Why are my ClickFunnels pageviews doubled?
The same script is installed at more than one level, or ClickFunnels loads GA4 for you while you also added your own GA4 tag.
How do I track ClickFunnels sales in Meta?
Use Meta's pixel on the funnel plus server events through the Conversions API, with the same event id for each purchase so Meta counts it once.
