How to track a Framer site: sources, signups and campaigns

Framer's built-in analytics counts visits. How to add a tracking tag in Site Settings, see which campaigns bring signups, and avoid the preview trap.

On this page

Framer sites are often product launches, portfolios and startup marketing pages: heavy on design, light on pages, with a signup or waitlist as the goal. Framer has site analytics built in for visits and pages. What it does not answer is which launch post, newsletter or ad brought the signups.

Install Sporetag on Framer

  1. In Sporetag, add your site's address and copy the tag from Set up your site.
  2. In Framer, open your project's Site Settings.
  3. Find the Custom Code section.
  4. Paste the tag into the box for the start of the head tag.
  5. Publish your site, then click Check my site in Sporetag.

The Framer install guide has the details.

The preview trap

Custom code runs on the published site only, not in the Framer canvas or preview. Test on the live address. If you use a framer.website address before connecting your own domain, add the address you will publish on and check again after the switch.

Page changes

Framer sites change pages without a full reload. A tag that counts only full page loads undercounts every visit after the first page. Sporetag follows page changes made through the browser's history, so each new page counts once. If you run another tool alongside it, check that it does too.

Count the signup

  • Framer forms: count the visit to the page or state shown after sending as a goal, or use Sporetag's form capture (90-day tracking) for forms with an email field; press Test it to confirm it sees yours.
  • Signups in your app: if the signup happens in your product on another domain, send it from your server with the Events API on paid plans, so the launch post or ad gets credit.
  • Launch traffic: tag every link in your launch posts, newsletters and directories with UTM parameters. Launch days bring traffic from many apps, and untagged app traffic lands in direct.

Common questions

Does Framer have analytics?

Yes, Framer has built-in site analytics for visits and pages. For campaign sources tied to signups or sales, add a tool through custom code.

Why does my Framer custom code not run?

You are viewing the canvas or preview, or the site was not published after adding the code.

Can I add Google Analytics to Framer?

Yes, through Framer's site settings or custom code. Use one method only, or every visit counts twice.
