How to track a GoDaddy Website Builder site, and its limits
Where tracking code can go in GoDaddy Websites + Marketing, why code in an HTML section runs in an iframe, and how to measure leads and campaigns anyway.
On this page
GoDaddy Website Builder, sold as Websites + Marketing, is built for owners who want a site without touching code. That shows in how it handles tracking: a few tools are built in, and custom code is boxed in. Before you pick an analytics tool for a GoDaddy site, check where its code can run.
This page covers the GoDaddy builder. A WordPress site hosted at GoDaddy is a different product; see how to track a WordPress site.
Where tracking code can go
GoDaddy documents two places (GoDaddy):
- Built-in fields in Settings for Google Analytics, the Facebook Pixel, a Facebook meta tag, a Pinterest meta tag and Google AdSense. No custom code needed, but only these tools.
- An HTML section you add to a page, with a Custom Code box for HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
The catch is in GoDaddy's own troubleshooting article: the HTML section's content is placed inside an iframe (GoDaddy). A tracking script in an iframe sees the iframe, not your page. It cannot read the page address, the referrer or the campaign tags of the visit, so it reports the wrong thing or nothing useful.
Some third-party guides describe a site-wide head code field in the builder's settings. GoDaddy's help center does not document one, and the editor has changed over the years, so look for it in your own site's settings before you choose a tool.
Install Sporetag on GoDaddy Website Builder
Sporetag needs to run in the page itself, so it works only if your editor has a site-wide head field.
- In Sporetag, add your site's domain and copy the tag from Set up your site.
- In the GoDaddy editor, open your site's settings and look for a field that adds code to the head of every page.
- If you find it, paste the tag there and publish your site.
- Open your site in a new tab and click Check my site in Sporetag.
If there is no head field, do not paste the tag into an HTML section: it would run in an iframe and count the wrong page. Pick I have a developer during setup, or book a setup call, and we will look at your site with you.
Measure leads without page code
Some measurement works on a GoDaddy site whatever the editor allows:
- Tag your links. UTM parameters on every ad, email and social link tell any analytics tool where the visit came from, including GoDaddy's built-in Google Analytics field.
- Short links count the click. A short link records the click on its own server before the visitor reaches your site, so a flyer, a text or a bio link has a click count even when page tracking is limited.
- Count leads where they land. If your contact form emails you, count leads by source from the form's own data, or ask "How did you hear about us?" on the form. It is low tech and it works.

Common questions
How do I add Google Analytics to a GoDaddy website?
Use the built-in Google Analytics field in your site's Settings. GoDaddy supports it directly, with no custom code.
Can I add a tracking script to GoDaddy Website Builder?
You can paste code into an HTML section, but GoDaddy places that content in an iframe, where a tracking script cannot see your page. A tracking script needs a site-wide head field, if your editor has one.
Why is my tracking code not working on GoDaddy?
Most often because it is in an HTML section, inside an iframe. It may also need the site to be published, and GoDaddy says it cannot troubleshoot third-party code.
Is GoDaddy's WordPress hosting the same as Website Builder?
No. WordPress hosting runs a normal WordPress site, where you can add any tag to the site's header.
