How to track a Wix site: sources, leads and the custom code rules

What Wix Analytics covers, why custom code only runs on a published site with a connected domain, and how to see which campaigns bring leads.

On this page

Wix includes analytics in the site dashboard: traffic, sources, sales and behavior reports, with more on higher plans. It answers "how many people came". It is weaker on "which of my campaigns brought the people who bought or booked", especially when traffic arrives from links without tags.

Install Sporetag on Wix

  1. In Sporetag, add your site's address and copy the tag from Set up your site.
  2. In your Wix site dashboard, open Settings, then under Development & integrations, click Custom Code.
  3. Click + Add Custom Code, paste the tag, and name it Sporetag.
  4. Under Add Code to Pages, pick All pages and load the code on each new page.
  5. Under Place Code in, pick Head, then click Apply.

The Wix install guide has the details.

The rule that catches everyone

Wix runs custom code only on a published site with a connected domain. On a free wixsite.com address the tag does not run at all, and the preview in the editor never runs it. If visits do not appear, check those two things first.

Add the domain your visitors use in Sporetag. Visits from other addresses are not counted.

What to track on a Wix site

  • Leads: Wix forms send without a page change. Sporetag's form capture (90-day tracking) counts sends from forms with an email or phone field; press Test it to confirm it sees yours. Or count the visit to a thank-you page as a goal.
  • Bookings and store sales: Wix Bookings and Wix Stores checkouts are Wix's own flows. Count the confirmation page as a goal, or send confirmed bookings and orders with the Events API on paid plans.
  • Sources: tag every link you share with UTM parameters, and use short links and QR codes for print. See QR code tracking.

Common questions

Does Wix have built-in analytics?

Yes. The site dashboard has traffic and sales reports. Depth depends on the plan.

Why is my custom code not working on Wix?

The site is not published, it has no connected domain, or the code is set for some pages only. Wix also lets you choose whether the code loads once or on each new page; pick each new page.

Can I use Google Tag Manager on Wix?

Wix has its own marketing integrations for Google tags, and custom code accepts a Tag Manager container. Avoid running the same tool twice through both, or you count every visit twice.
