QR code

A square barcode that phones read with the camera to open a link.

A QR code encodes a link. A phone camera reads it and opens the address, with no referrer, so scans land in direct traffic unless the link carries UTM tags.

  • Static codes hold the final address. They cannot change, and only your analytics can count the visits.
  • Dynamic codes hold a short link, which counts each scan and can be pointed somewhere else later.

QR codes tolerate damage through error correction, recovering about 7, 15, 25 or 30 percent of the code at levels L, M, Q and H (Denso Wave). See QR code tracking.
