Short links

UTM presets

Pick where you will share a link, like SMS, email, Instagram or Meta ads, and the UTM tags fill in. What each place sets, and how to save your own presets.

UTM tags are short labels on the end of a link, like ?utm_source=instagram. Analytics tools, Sporetag included, read them to tell you where a visit came from. Typing them by hand is slow and easy to get wrong. When you make a link, you pick where you will share it and the tags fill in.

The campaign name, utm_campaign, starts from the link's name, like spring-sale. With no name, it uses the campaign of your last link. Change it any time.

One style for every value

Sporetag keeps every value lowercase, with hyphens for spaces. Spring Sale! becomes spring-sale. That way Instagram and instagram never show up as two sources. Ad platform placeholders, like {{campaign.name}}, are kept exactly as typed.

Plain names

The form uses plain names. The tags behind them:

  • Campaign name is utm_campaign.
  • Which ad or post is utm_content.
  • Under Advanced (UTM fields): Where it is shared is utm_source, Kind of traffic is utm_medium, and Ad set or keyword is utm_term.

Save your own presets

Fill in the tags you use often, open Advanced (UTM fields), give them a name and choose Save preset. The preset saves the five tags and the client, if you set one. It shows as a chip next time, under Yours. Saving with the same name again replaces it. Manage your presets from the Manage chip.

One offer, many places

Make one link, then tick more places under Make variants on its page. Each variant gets its own short link and tags, with the same campaign. The group adds them up, so you see the whole offer and each place.

Where tags show up

Open the site's dashboard and look at the Sources panel: UTM source, medium, campaign, ad and ad set. Filter by any of them to see the pages and goals for that traffic only. The attribution report shows sales by campaign, ad and ad set too.
