Import ad spend from a file
Bring spend from Google Ads, TikTok, Microsoft, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Snapchat or any platform as a CSV file or a Google Sheets paste, to see return on ad spend.
Any ad platform can bring its spend into Sporetag as a file. Sporetag then shows return on ad spend (ROAS) for it on the Attribution tab, next to the sales it credited. This is also how Google Ads spend comes in until its one-click connect ships (when shipped).
It is on paid plans: Solo, Studio, Agency and Custom. Free does not include it.
Import a file
- Open your site, then Integrations. Under Ad spend, click Import a file.
- Pick the Platform if your file has no platform column, like a Google Ads report.
- Pick the file and click Import.
Or open Paste from Google Sheets, select the cells in your sheet with the header row, copy and paste.
Sporetag says how many rows it added, and lists any line it could not read with what to fix. Fix those lines and import the whole file again. A row with the same date, platform, campaign, ad set and ad replaces the one already there, so nothing counts twice.
Columns
Start from Download the template on the import page. The first row names the columns. Their order does not matter.
| Column | Needed | Example |
|---|---|---|
date | Yes | 2026-10-01 or 10/1/2026 |
platform | Yes, or pick one on the page | google, tiktok, microsoft, linkedin, pinterest, snapchat, meta or other |
campaign | Yes | Spring sale |
ad set | No | The ad set or ad group |
ad | No | The ad name |
spend | Yes | 125.40 |
currency | Yes | USD |
campaign id | No | The platform's campaign id. Matches utm_id best. |
impressions, clicks | No | Whole numbers |
Common names from platform reports work too: Day, Campaign name, Ad group, Cost, Amount spent, Currency code, Impr..
- One row per day and campaign (or ad set, or ad). Add up duplicates into one row.
- Dates up to two years back. No future dates.
- Spend in the account's own currency. Sporetag never converts money.
- Meta or Google Ads connected? Leave their rows out. Their spend comes in by itself, and the import refuses those rows so nothing counts twice.
Google Ads
- In Google Ads, open Campaigns. Pick the date range.
- Click Segment, then Time, then Day.
- Make sure the columns include Campaign, Cost and Currency code. Add Campaign ID for the best match.
- Click Download and pick .csv.
- In Sporetag, pick Google Ads as the platform and import the file. The title lines and the total row at the end are skipped for you.
For ad group or ad detail, download the same report from Ad groups or Ads.
TikTok, Microsoft and others
Export a report by day with the campaign name, cost and currency, then import it with that platform picked. If the report has no currency column, add one to the file. The platform's help pages name the report screens.
Matching spend to sales
Spend joins the sales Sporetag credits by the tags on each ad's link: by campaign id (utm_id, or Google's {campaignid}) first, then by names. utm_campaign, utm_term and utm_content are matched to the campaign, ad set and ad, written the way the link builder writes them: lowercase, with hyphens for spaces. So "Spring Sale" in the file matches spring-sale on the link.
Campaigns with spend but no tracked visit show as spend we could not match to tracked links. Add the platform's URL template to those ads. See Tracking ads with UTMs.
Delete imported spend
The import page lists what came in, per platform. Click Delete next to a platform to remove all its imported spend.
