Get a texting number
Your own number for flow texts. Sporetag registers it with US carriers for you, shows each fee first, and tells you where the review stands.
Flow texts go out from a number that is yours. Sporetag gets it from Twilio, our texting partner, and does the carrier registration for you. This is "(when shipped)" until Sporetag switches texts on.
US carriers block business texts from numbers that are not registered. Registration tells them who you are and what you will send. It is the same for every business, and it takes some patience: reviews take days, sometimes a few weeks.
Pick your path
| You have | You get | Registration |
|---|---|---|
| An EIN (a US business tax ID) | A local number with your area code | A2P 10DLC: your brand, then your campaign |
| No EIN (sole proprietor) | A toll-free number | Toll-free verification |
Both can send the same texts. Open Get a texting number from your Automations settings, or go to /app/texting.
Fees
Twilio charges these. Sporetag shows them before you submit and records each one on your account. Nothing is charged to you yet; Billing will pass them on later, at cost.
| Fee | Local number (10DLC) | Toll-free |
|---|---|---|
| Brand registration, once | $4.50 (Low-volume standard), $46 if you send more than 6,000 texts a day | none |
| Campaign review, once | $15 | none |
| Campaign, monthly | $1.50 to $10, by what you text about | none |
| Number, monthly | $1.15 | $2.15 |
| Each text | $0.0083 per 160 characters, plus carrier fees of about $0.0025 to $0.005 | the same |
These are Twilio's list prices as checked on 2026-10-23. Twilio can change them. A longer text, or one with emoji, counts as more than one part.
Fill in your details
The form starts with what we know from your account. It asks for:
- Your business: the legal name exactly as on your tax forms, the type, your EIN, your industry and website.
- Address: where the business is registered.
- Contact person: someone the carriers can reach, with their job title.
- Your texts: what you text about, two real sample texts, and how people agree to get them.
What carriers look at most:
- Samples name your brand and say how to opt out, like "Reply STOP to opt out."
- How people agree is specific: the page, the checkbox, and what it says. A checkbox that is ticked for people is not consent.
- Your website works and shows the same business name.
Tick the box to agree to the fees, then choose Submit registration. Your details are stored encrypted and sent only to Twilio.
Where it stands
The page shows each stage:
- Business profile: Twilio checks your details.
- Brand: the carriers' registry checks your business.
- Campaign: the carriers check what you will text.
- Number: you pick it.
We check with Twilio every 15 minutes. Check now asks at once. If something is turned down, the page shows Twilio's reason in its own words. Fix it with Start over with new details, or choose Try again if it was a passing problem.
Pick your number
Once the campaign is approved (or right away, on the toll-free path), enter an area code and pick a number. It is bought in your own Twilio subaccount and attached for you. Every site in your account that has no texting sender yet starts using it. You can change each site's sender in its Automations settings.
On the toll-free path, verification starts once you have the number. Texts can go out when Twilio approves it.
Replies and STOP
Replies come back to Sporetag. STOP, START and HELP work at once, on every site that uses the number. See Automations for the texting rules: consent, quiet hours and the opt-out line.
