Funnels

See how many people make each step to a sale or a signup, where the rest leave, how long each step takes, and which sources finish best.

A funnel is the path people take to a win, step by step: visit the site, view a product, open the cart, start checkout, buy. It shows how many make each step, and where the rest leave.

Funnels are on Solo, Studio and Agency.

Your first funnel is ready

Open the site, then Funnels. Sporetag builds a funnel for you from your goals and the pages people really visit. A shop gets visit, product, cart, checkout, then the sale. A lead site gets visit, pricing or contact, then the form. It is marked Suggested. Tap Save to keep it as it is, or Change steps to start from it.

No goal yet? Add one on the Goals tab and the suggestion appears.

Read it

  • The sentence on top names the step where most people leave.
  • Started, Finished and Conversion sum it up. Conversion is the share of starters who finished, with the change from the period before.
  • Each bar is the people who reached that step, and their share of the starters.
  • Between the bars: the share who went on, how many left, and the typical (median) time the next step took.
  • The thin mark on each bar is where the period before ended up.

Pick 7, 30 or 90 days on top. Split by shows the same funnel by source, campaign or device, so you can see that Instagram visitors finish twice as often as Google ones.

See who left

With 90-day tracking, the number of people who left at a step is a link. It opens the visitor profiles behind it, newest first, so you can see where they came from and what they did. Profiles start after consent when your site waits for it, so the list can be shorter than the count.

Build or change a funnel

New funnel opens the builder, filled with the suggested steps.

StepCounts whenExample
PageSomeone views a page. Use * for any part/products/*, /cart, /* for any page
EventYour site or the Events API sends that eventSignup, Add to cart
GoalOne of your goals is reachedPurchase, Form sent

Steps must happen in this order. A later step never counts from the same event as the step before it.

Count the steps sets how far apart they can be:

  • In one visit: all steps in the same visit (one visitor on one day). This is all Private mode can do.
  • Within 1, 7 or 30 days, across visits: for sites with 90-day tracking. Someone who looks today and buys on Friday counts as one finish.

A site can have 10 funnels with 2 to 8 steps each.

On dashboards and in reports

Add a Funnel widget from Edit, then Add chart, on any dashboard, and pick the funnel in Chart settings. It shows for the dashboard's period, on shared client dashboards too. Client reports have a Funnel block. The Ecommerce and Leads templates start with the suggested funnel.

How it is counted

  • A funnel starts when step 1 happens inside the period. Later steps may land after the period ends, while they are within the window.
  • If someone starts more than once, the try that got furthest counts.
  • Bots never count, as everywhere in Sporetag.
  • A funnel reads the last 90 days at most. On a very busy site a funnel reads the first 50,000 matching events of a period, and the page says when that limit was reached.
