How did you hear about us

Ask one optional question after a form or an order, and see the answers next to the source Sporetag tracked.

Some people find you through a friend, a podcast or a radio spot. No link is clicked, so they arrive as Direct. One short question catches them: "How did you hear about us?" The answers show next to the tracked source on the Attribution tab.

It needs a paid plan and 90-day tracking, so each person is asked once.

Turn it on

  1. Open your site, then Settings.
  2. Find How did you hear about us and tick Ask the question.
  3. Change the question or the choices if you like, one per line, up to 8. "Other" with a text box is added for you.
  4. Click Save question.

Where it is asked

WhereWhen
After a formSomeone sends a form with an email or phone field. A small card asks on that page, or on the next page within two minutes.
Thank-you pagesThe page address matches one you list, like /thank-you or /order-received*. * stands for any part.
Your own formYour form already has a field named like "how did you hear". Its answer is read and the card is not shown.
Order emailsA link in your shop's order confirmation email opens a one-question page with your shop's name.

The card asks once per person, only after they agree to cookies when your site waits for consent. Closing it counts as an answer of nothing, so it does not come back.

Shopify

Shopify checkout pages do not run your tag, so the card cannot show on the Shopify thank-you page. Use the order email link instead:

  1. In Sporetag, copy the Link for your order email from the question's settings.
  2. In Shopify, open Settings, Notifications, Order confirmation, then Edit code.
  3. Paste a line such as <a href="LINK">How did you hear about us?</a> where you want it, with your link in place of LINK.
  4. Save.

The link carries the order number. Once the Shopify connector syncs that order, the answer joins the customer and their tracked source. Asking on the Shopify thank-you page itself comes with the Sporetag Shopify app (when shipped).

How answers are counted

Answers are grouped, so "my neighbor" and "A friend or family" both count as Friend or family. The groups are Google, Facebook or Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Friend or family, Local paper or radio, AI assistant, Podcast, Email and Other. Choices you add yourself keep their own row.

What people told us on the Attribution tab shows each answer with where Sporetag first tracked those people from. The line on top says how many who answered came in as Direct.

People can misremember, so the answers never change the tracked numbers or any model. They sit beside them. A person's answer also shows on their profile, and client reports can include a What people told us block.

Privacy

An answer is what the person picked or typed, up to 80 characters. It is never used to identify anyone.
