Import your history

Bring past visits in from Google Analytics 4, Plausible or Fathom, so your charts are full on day one. What comes in, and how it is counted.

Moving to Sporetag does not mean starting from an empty chart. Bring the days before Sporetag in from the tool you used, and your dashboard shows them next to the days Sporetag tracks.

Open your site, then Settings. The Import history card has both ways in.

From Google Analytics 4

Connect Google Analytics (when shipped).

  1. Click Connect Google Analytics and sign in with a Google account that can see the property. Sporetag asks to read your analytics, nothing else.
  2. Pick the property and click Start import.

The import runs on its own, newest days first, and the card shows how far it has come. You can close the page. When it ends, Sporetag gives the Google access back.

From Plausible

  1. In Plausible, open the site's settings, then Imports and Exports, and export to CSV.
  2. Upload the zip file to the card as it is, and click Import file.

From Fathom

Fathom's dashboard download holds totals for the whole range, not each day, so use a custom export:

  1. In Fathom, start a new export of Pageviews, grouped Daily, with all metrics, over the range you want.
  2. Export once with no dimension. That file holds the daily totals and is needed.
  3. Export once more for each breakdown you want: page, referrer, country, device type, browser, operating system, a UTM field or event name.
  4. Upload all the files to the card at once.

How the days are counted

  • No day counts twice. Only days before your first tracked day come in. From that day on, only Sporetag's own numbers count. The chart marks the day, and a note above it says where the earlier days come from.
  • Your plan's history applies. The import reaches back as far as your plan keeps history, and imported days age out with it.
  • Other tools count differently. GA4 counts a user by a browser cookie, so a GA4 user is not a Sporetag visitor. Visits are GA4 sessions, a bounce is a session GA4 did not count as engaged, and time is the time the page was in front. Imported days will not line up exactly with tracked days.
  • Google may hold numbers back. For privacy, Google leaves out small numbers in some reports (thresholds), and may estimate a report from a sample. The card says so when that happened.
  • Goals: key events from GA4 and custom events from Plausible and Fathom show on a goal with the same event name. Sales, revenue and visitor profiles start with Sporetag.
  • Filters apply to tracked days only. GA4 days follow your property's time zone; Sporetag's follow UTC.

Import again or remove

A new import replaces the days imported before. Remove imported days takes them all out. Days Sporetag tracked are never changed by either.
