Signups and sales with no setup

Sporetag counts the signups, purchases and leads your site already reports to Meta, Google, TikTok or Pinterest, and makes the goals for you.

On this page

Most sites already tell their ad tools when someone signs up or buys. The Meta pixel fires CompleteRegistration, Google gets sign_up or purchase. Sporetag listens for those and counts them too, with nothing to set up. Signups that come from "Continue with Google" count the same way, since no form is needed.

What it reads

Your site reportsSporetag counts
Meta pixel CompleteRegistration, Google sign_up, TikTok CompleteRegistration, Pinterest signupSignup
Meta Purchase, Google purchase, TikTok CompletePayment or PlaceAnOrder, Pinterest checkoutPurchase, with value and currency
Meta Lead, Google generate_lead, TikTok SubmitForm, Pinterest leadLead
Meta SubscribeSubscribe
Meta StartTrialTrial
Meta ContactContact
Meta ScheduleBooking
Meta SubmitApplicationApplication
Meta InitiateCheckout, Google begin_checkoutCheckout (an event for funnels, never a goal on its own)

Google means the Google tag (gtag) and Google Tag Manager (dataLayer.push). It works whether those tags load before or after Sporetag.

From each one Sporetag keeps the name, the value, the currency, the order id and Meta's event id. Nothing else is read. Emails, phone numbers, names and the hashed details ad tags send for matching are never read or stored.

When two tags report the same signup, it counts once. When your site sends sporetag('Signup') itself within a second of the tag, your event counts and the tag's copy is skipped.

Goals, made for you

The first time Sporetag sees one, it adds the goal, such as Signup or Purchase. When you have not picked a main goal, a Signup or Purchase goal becomes it, so your dashboard, alerts and weekly plan follow it.

The Overview tells you once: "Sporetag now counts signups from your site's Meta pixel." Press Undo to take the goal back. It will not come back. You can also remove any goal on the Goals tab.

To be asked first instead, turn off Add suggested goals without asking in the site's Settings, under Alerts. Sporetag then suggests each goal on the Overview for one tap.

Counts start when Sporetag sees them

Nothing is filled in for the days before. A goal counts the events Sporetag recorded, starting with the first one it saw.

Signups without a pixel

Sporetag also spots signups from how people move through your pages:

  • From a signup page into your app. A visit that goes from /signup, /register or /join straight to /app, /dashboard, /onboarding or /welcome is recorded as Account created. A visit from /login is someone coming back, so it is left out.
  • Back from Google, Apple, GitHub or Microsoft sign-in to /onboarding, /welcome, /getting-started or /setup. Also Account created.
  • "Continue with Google" and buttons like it, tapped on a signup page, are recorded as Signup started.
  • Thank-you pages, like /thank-you or /order-confirmed.

These are good guesses, not facts your site reported, so Sporetag waits until it has seen one 3 times. Account created then becomes your Signup goal, unless something already counts signups. Signup started and thank-you pages are only suggested, with what was seen.

From the Events API

Send a signup from your server with one line and the goal is made the same way:

Shell
curl https://sporetag.com/api/v1/events \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SPORETAG_KEY" \
  -d '{"name": "sign_up", "email": "ann@example.com", "external_ids": {"app_user": "u_123"}}'

Common spellings all work: Signup, sign_up, CompleteRegistration, purchase, order, lead, start_trial and more. The first one already counts. With 90-day tracking, a signup with an email or an external id also makes a customer profile. See the Events API.

Turn it off

In the site's Settings, under Automatic events, switch off Conversions your tags report. Sporetag then stops listening to your tags and stops looking for signups in your pages. Events API events still make their goals.

Privacy

It runs inside Sporetag's own add-on, x.js. No cookies and no storage, in either tracking mode. Each conversion is sent the way every Sporetag event is, so a site that waits for consent sends it without the visitor's id until they agree. Meta and Pinterest are read from the web addresses of requests their tags already made; Sporetag never changes them. Google is read from the dataLayer list. TikTok's ttq.track is passed through untouched.
